The Creative Store Salary Survey 2017

Our salary review is a guide on how the industry is performing – a gauge on the New Zealand market. Figures are based on the candidates we meet, their current salaries and their skills vs salaries. This combined with our client salary expectations, gives an overall market expectation.

There was a steady growth pace throughout 2016. Clients remained positive, with overall market growth.

Digital design and development roles have continued to expand at a rapid pace.

Traditional agency account management roles at the junior level are becoming obsolete and replaced with Social, Content and Community roles.

Due to supply & demand, salaries continued to steadily rise across the digital and tech sector.

Significant growth across agency senior exec level roles.

Freelance & contract continues to trend. Clients much more comfortable using off-site contractors – across all sectors.

Copywriters are once again having their day in the sun – and in high demand.

In-house design studios are continuing to expand.

Developers freelancing has gained popularity with both employers and developers. There has been a rise in contract roles over permanent. More senior developers are opting for the professional freelancer title as opposed to taking another fulltime role.

Frontend technical requirements are growing. JavaScript and jQuery are no longer enough. With modern JS libraries, most common being (angular, node, react, backbone) frontend now covers middleware and backend development. Learning these new libraries will be essential to progress your career as a Frontend developer.
