Retail trade survey data for December 2016 quarter

Corrected retail trade survey data for December 2016 quarter

27 February 2017

Statistics NZ has today corrected the fuel and total sales volumes figures for the December 2016 quarter, first published on 17 February 2017.

The corrections were due to fixing an error in the calculation of the fuel deflator.

See Retail Trade Survey: December 2016 quarter – corrected for more information

There are no changes to the numbers published for any of the sales values series or the sales volume series for any of the other industries. The core sales volume series does not include fuel, so is also not affected.

Following the correction, the total sales volume for the December 2016 quarter is now up a seasonally adjusted 0.6 percent, having previously been published as rising 0.8 percent. The total sales volume for the September 2016 quarter has now revised to an increase of 0.7 percent after previously being published as a 0.8 percent increase.

Statistics NZ apologises for any inconvenience caused by this error.
