Zeffer cider takes out gold at International Cider Awards

Hot off the heels of their successful Snowball Effect capital raise, Zeffer cider has scooped up gold for its Cidre Demi-Sec at the world’s most prestigious International Cider Awards held in the UK last week.

The traditional French medium sweet cider won gold in the ‘Cider Apple Class – Sweet’ category. For each class, only one gold, silver and bronze medal is awarded after tastings by a panel of 45 judges from 21 countries.

No stranger to receiving accolades, Zeffer have already won over 50 awards recognising the quality and innovation of their products. The Cidre Demi-Sec has also previously been recognised with a ‘Brewers Guild of New Zealand Award’ win last year.

Judge, Gabe Cook (aka The Ciderologist), said the “quality, range and innovative nature of the entries was simply outstanding,” he praised Zeffer’s Cidre Demi-Sec’s Gold Medal as a “testament to their skills as cider makers and to the standard of New Zealand’s burgeoning craft cider industry as a whole.”

Josh Townsend, Sales and Marketing Director at Zeffer, says “to take out gold at the biggest and most respected global cider competition is huge for us. This is a great way to continue the upward momentum after achieving our capital target offer earlier this month.”

Zeffer cider smashed its $1.2 million public capital target in just five days after launch, becoming the fastest FMCG brand to reach its funding target via Snowball Effect.

Jody Scott, Zeffer’s head cider maker, also adds, “Our traditional French style Cidre Demi-Sec uses wild fermentation and heritage fruit. This is a cider we make once a year with select cider apple varieties and we were really happy with the way it turned out.

“Not only is it great to have our Cidre Demi-Sec recognised again, but to be awarded at an event with such a strong heritage and long international standing, makes it that much sweeter.”

Dubbed the “Oscars of the brewing and cider industry”, this three-day international competition held in Burton-upon-Trent in the UK is unique in that only working brewers and cider makers may join the judging panel. The overall Championship winners in 10 categories are unveiled at a presentation ceremony held at London’s Guildhall on 26th April, 2017.

The biennial International Cider Awards sits alongside the International Brewing Awards and is one of the longest standing beer and cider competitions in the world, with the first competition run in 1888.
