Natalie Robinson kicks off NZCTA YA Forum

Natalie Robinson kicks off NZCTA Young Associates’ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum

AUCKLAND, March 28, 2017 - New Zealand China Trade Association Young Associates (NZCTA YA) will launch their 2017 with The New Zealand China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum. The Forum is on 1 April 2017 at the Seafarers Club. The Forum is just one of the many ways NZCTA YA aims to empower the youth of New Zealand to a more prosperous future with China.

Earlier last week, NZCTA YA interviewed Natalie Robinson of startup community Mum’s Garage. As the Forum’s opening speaker, she will set the scene on what the Forum is about. In this interview, Natalie noted that for graduates or students, the Forum is a “really good (way) to get an understanding on how you can go from having a great idea, to actually starting something. In my session, I will try share as much value as possible on how you can transition out of a job and how you can take those first steps.”

She also talked about the assumption that great ideas are needed to start a business venture. “People don’t need to start off with great ideas, because I haven’t met any founders that run with the first idea they had. Starting a business is about figuring out what the great parts are about your idea.” Moreover, she advocates, it is about “going through the process of turning an idea into a great one… and finding out what you really care about and what you are passionate about.”

Natalie highlighted that “it will be good to hear about other people’s stories. Often, you don’t get to hear about the early part of their stories, so it’s a cool opportunity to hear about that. Connecting to a new community of like-minded people is really important. And, it’s an awesome opportunity to find out about opportunities in China. The more you know about where the world is moving, the better equipped you are to make good decisions for your startup. There are definitely a lot of opportunities for startups in China.”

NZCTA YA Chairman Kevin Wei thinks “There just isn’t enough coverage in the mainstream media about the NZ China business world other than property and immigration. Hopefully this Forum will inspire the crowd of culturally-sensitive, mobile and highly educated young people to embrace the opportunities that are available to them.”

In addition to Natalie, other speakers at the Forum include Latipay’s CEO Leigh Flounders, Zino Ventures’ Fund Manager Jason Wang, The Agency 88’s Nick Siu, GRC Sino Green’s Fund Partner Tony Bishop, Texus Fibres’ CEO Nick Davenport and Uniservices’ China Manager Song Gao. The Forum will encompass all parts of the start-up continuum from idea validation to growing the business.

The Forum is on Saturday 1 April, at the Seafarers Club near Takutai Square.
