Manawatu Chamber of Commerce ‘Collaborative’ Briefing

Manawatu Chamber of Commerce ‘Collaborative’ Briefing fills the room at Central Energy Trust Arena – 27/3/2017

Over 150 Manawatu businesses filled the Stewarts Electrical Lounge at the Central Energy Trust last night to hear from the Chamber of Commerce, the Mayors of PNCC and MDC, Horizons Regional Council, CEDA and Talent Central.

The meeting was organised by the Manawatu Chamber of Commerce for some of the regional stakeholders to update members on the role of their organisations and what they are looking to achieve, and was partly in response to the CEDA business survey commissioned late last year. The independent survey by UMR found that of that total respondents 74% felt that the Manawatu region needs a unifying voice for driving growth right across the region.

The Acting Chief Executive of the Manawatu Chamber of Commerce, Amanda Linsley, said “the Chamber is delighted with the response from the business community and the optimism felt in the room. However, we are not complacent and it is imperative that we all continue to work together to ensure opportunities for our business members are maximised.”

Michael McCartney, Chief Executive of Horizons Regional Council (and the Accelerate 25 Lead Team Facilitator) gave an update on the Action Plan for Accelerate 25 and reinforced that for our region to have measurable success we need to be unified and focused, a theme that ran through all of the presentations. The UMR survey also found business confidence to be higher for Manawatu region than the national average.

The Manawatu Chamber of Commerce is an independent membership-based organisation funded through its Membership to support the business community and advocate on its behalf.
