National Coworking Day, Thursday May 11th

National Coworking Day, Thursday May 11th

Thursday 4 May 2017

Thursday 11 May - New Zealand’s first National Coworking Day: 28 coworking spaces from Whangarei to Dunedin open their doors in a celebration of coworking.

On Thursday 11 May 2017, coworking venues all over NZ, in large centres and regional towns from Whangarei to Dunedin are opening their doors, inviting curious locals to tour their spaces and experience first-hand what these collaborative knowledge-sharing working environments are really about.

Coworking is a relatively new concept in New Zealand. It’s all about innovative like-minded people working on their own businesses in the same space as others. Collaborating, idea-sharing, and working together occurs naturally between them. Coworking spaces provide all the amenities and technologies people expect in a modern work environment. They often attract start-up businesses or those self-employed professionals or small businesses who’ve grown out of working from home and see this as an excellent next step.

“It’s a nice, peaceful environment with all the mod cons. I’ve met many other inspiring people here, and I find it useful to bounce ideas off others or simply get something off my mind. Its great having a variety of personalities and skills around the office, we have techies, artists, architects and educators, all of whom are friendly and like to raid the biscuit jar at 3pm. I’m far more productive than when I was working from home”

Ron Fisher, Coworker.

The national event is being organised by Double Farley in association with The Coworking Hui, and this year is part of the TechWeek series of events. “I came up with the idea of National Coworking Day after attending the first Coworking Hui in October last year.”, says Kevin Double of Double Farley. “I wanted to showcase the increasing number of spaces available to New Zealanders, generate interest in coworking in the various cities and regions. It was also an ideal chance to align with TechWeek as members of the various coworking venues often feature as key players in NZ technology and innovation. “

Visitors to the spaces will be welcomed throughout the day on the 11 May, and there is no need to book or have any commitment to becoming a member.

The event is free, and spaces will be open 9 am to 5pm, with many organising additional events during the day which visitors and existing members are encouraged to take part in.
