We Have Your Silk Road
We Have Your Silk Road
For Immediate Release
Welcome to the inaugural New Zealand – China (Weifang Shandong) Branded Products Expo. This three-day events bring over 50 businesses from Weifang, the city of kites, and a two-day of family day featuring kites flying, workshops, competition and more.
Weifang, situated in Shandong, North East of China. A city of over 9 million people, it is highly urbanised and is an important region for construction projects and enterprises. It is no surprised that it is in the heart of China’s One-Belt-One-Road system.
As New Zealand is still considering our involvement in the One-Belt-One-Road initiative set up by President Xi Jingping in 2013, the idea is one that brings together infrastructural partnerships and investments between different countries. One of the most recent collaborations involved state-owned China’s Rail and Northland Regional Council.
This expo features businesses from agriculture, building materials, chemicals, food, household items, investments, food, machinery, plastics, textiles, e-commerce and more. On Friday NZ businesses will be able to meet with Chinese businesses and discuss possible partnership and collaborations. On the weekend, the expo will be opened to the public, where we will be able to see some of the best kites in the world, learn about kites and participate in a kite competition. Find out why Weifang is the city of kite, a city that holds an international kite festival every year.

Additional Information:
Weifang is a prefecture-live city in central Shandong province, People’s Republic of China. Its population was 9,086,241 at the 2010 census, of whom 2,659,938 lived in the built-up (or metro) area made up of 4 urban districts (Kuiwen, Weicheng, Hanting and Fangzi) and Changle County largely being urbanized.
Earlier this year, Weifang organised a massive One-Belt-One-Road conference involving over 120 businesses and 40 international businesses. Shandong is on route to the ancient Silk-Road and this gives Shandong an excellent and obvious partner for trade events.
Shandong is also labelled “City o Kite”. Weifang organised its first international kite festival in 1984 and more than 10,000 kite fans attended the event. Since then Weifang has held an International Kite Festival every years with over relevant countries and regions participating in the event.
This Expo is organised by Weifang Commerce Bureau of Shandong Municipal Government and Peopples’ Government of Kuiwen District of Shandong Province.
