Queenstown Airport monthly passenger report and Winter Outlook 2018


The total number of passengers travelling through the terminal increased by 15% compared with last year to 198,983 passengers in March.

• Domestic traffic was up 13% on March last year to 149,363 passengers
• International passengers were up 23% compared with last March to 49,620 - with 18% (over 9,000) more seats on the trans-Tasman routes than last March
• In March, the 12-month passenger numbers reached 2,081,000 million, up 14% compared to the previous 12 months with growth in domestic and international.

Some interesting key facts:
• Thursday 29 March was our 17th busiest day on record with 7,750 total passengers through the Airport. This coincided with the start of Easter, Ed Sheeran in Auckland and Warbirds over Wanaka.
• There was an influx of visitors to the region during March due to key events and holidays including; Wanaka A+P Show, Warbirds over Wanaka, Ed Sheeran, Easter and Southlandand Otago Anniversary Days
• There was also a spike in the first week of March due to the departure of New Zealand Golf Open and Chinese New Year visitors.

Winter Outlook 2018 (see file attached)
Winter’s just around the corner and the weather gurus are predicting a long and cold season. We’ve pulled together the winter flight schedule highlights for you to help you plan ahead.

• Overall capacity is scheduled to increase 8% over last winter’s schedule. This is aided by an increase in the shoulder season capacity for both international (May 20%, June 8%) and domestic (April 15%, May 19%, June 13%)
• The busiest winter week will be from Monday 9 to Sunday 15 July (NZ and Australian school holidays), with an average of 56 daily flights for this period (arrivals and departures)
• The peak period last year was between 3 and 9 July with an average of 54 daily flights and 48,210 passengers
• The busiest days for winter 2018 are set to be Saturday 7 July, Saturday 14 July, Saturday 21 July and Saturday 28 July with expected passenger volumes in the range of 7,900 – 8,600 per day.
