From garage start-up to NZ’s top PR Consultancy, twice

Campbell Squared Communications has been recognised as the Large PR Consultancy of the Year for the second year running by the Public Relations Institute of New Zealand (PRINZ).

The Tauranga-based strategic communications company also took out the Government Public Relations Award at the 2018 PRINZ Awards, held at the Claudelands Event Centre in Hamilton on Wednesday.

Starting out in a small converted garage less than eight years ago, the business now employs 16 people and works with clients across New Zealand and internationally.

Directors Scott and Angela Campbell say they are delighted to be the Consultancy of the Year again in 2018, and feel motivated to keep raising the bar.

“Campbell Squared is on a mission to change mindsets, and these awards recognise our focus on creating innovative solutions that push people to be brave and authentic in what they say and do,” says Mr Campbell.

“We acknowledge our incredible clients and the trust that they put in us. They give us the ability to change the way organisations communicate, and ultimately shift people’s attitudes and actions.”

Campbell Squared won the Government Public Relations Award 2018 for its work with Walesi – a Fijian Government initiative to roll-out free digital television to all Fijians.

“Working in Fiji meant we had to operate in a different way, tailoring communications to a different culture,” says Mr Campbell.

“Walesi is an important social initiative that will have a massive impact in terms of access to information and education for Fijian people, and this mahi was hugely rewarding for our team.”

Mr Campbell says that Campbell Squared’s success is proof that big things can come out of the regions.

“Operating from the Bay of Plenty has been no barrier to our business, and in fact has enabled us to grow pretty rapidly.

“We are proud to have attracted talented employees from Auckland and Australia. You don’t need to be based in a major centre to work for major clients.”

In 2017 Campbell Squared won the Supreme Award and Communicating in Diversity Award for its work to reconnect Te Wairoa whānau with their iwi, at the 2017 PRINZ Awards in Christchurch.

The consultancy specialises in strategic communications, issues and crisis management, media, iwi and Māori engagement, design and video production.
