Lace up your walking shoes to #ExploreChristchurch

Our #ExploreChristchurch campaign is in full swing and we’re starting to see some exciting results as our public and private sectors unite to drive residents back to our city centre.

Over the past two weeks, we’ve seen great uptake of the #ExploreChristchurch hashtag with individuals and organisations sharing what they love best about our CBD.

As of yesterday, we’ve had 14,063 unique visitors to our Pockets of Awesome website, which is the repository for our #ExploreChristchurch campaign content. 83% of this traffic is coming from our social channels, Pockets of Awesome Facebook page and EDM.

The Pockets of Awesome Facebook page has a local following of 20,000 people which has increased by 4,500 followers since June 2018.

Check out the love we’ve had from the 1.5k residents who have commented on our Ballantynes $1,000 voucher competition – all sharing what they love about Christchurch’s city centre.

Here are some images and content you can use when spreading the word about the #ExploreChristchurch campaign.

MEDIA RELEASE

Lace up your walking shoes and #ExploreChristchurch

26 July 2018

The #ExploreChristchurch campaign is in full swing and with so much changing in Christchurch’s vibrant city centre, it’s sometimes hard to know what’s where, and how to get there.

That’s why Ōtākaro Limited is offering free guided city walking tours to the public and encouraging residents to lace up their shoes and reconnect with their CBD.

“We have two exciting Central City walking tours to choose from, so people can get to know their city again,” says Ōtākaro General Manager of Communication and Engagement, Andrew Trevelayn.

The free 30-minute tours are ideal for people of all ages and walks of life, from office workers on a lunchbreak to older residents and young families.

“We’re encouraging people to come see what’s new and learn about what’s being built for the future,” Trevelyan says.

Ōtākaro joined forces with ChristchurchNZ and other city leaders for the #ExploreChristchurch campaign, which aims to encourage residents to explore the latest events and offerings within the heart of our city.

ChristchurchNZ General Manager - Marketing, Brand & Communications Tim Loftus says the campaign was launched on July 13 in response to requests from local businesses to help stimulate economic activity within the CBD.

“We want Christchurch to fall in love with its heart again – the CBD,” Loftus says.

“There’s so much to see and do in our city centre, from exploring the hidden eateries that are taking our city centre by storm, to exploring a great range of shops and boutique offerings or checking out the cool galleries and local events.”

Loftus says everyone can become a campaign ambassador for our beautiful city by using the hashtag #ExploreChristchurch when posting what you love best about our CBD.

Those keen to take a look at the exciting developments in the central city have two Ōtākaro guided tours to choose from:

The North Walk, covering The Promenade, Te Pae (Convention Centre) Victoria Square, Rauora Park/East Frame and the Retail Precinct; or

The South Walk, winding around the Promenade, The Justice and Emergency Services building, The South Frame, Rauora Park/East Frame and The Retail Precinct.

Ōtākaro guided Central City walks will be held every Thursday from August 9 – 30, at 12:30 pm. There are limited places available so please book your spot by emailinginfo@otakaroltd.co.nz or phoning 03 357 6300.

Residents are encouraged to sign up to ChristchurchNZ’s fortnightly Pockets of Awesome newsletter to discover the newest bars, restaurants, events and must do activities in Christchurch.
