REINZ launches new Property Management Certificate

REINZ prepares for potential regulation of the property management industry by launching new Property Management Certificate

As the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand (REINZ) continues to reiterate its call for the Government to regulate the property management industry, it is now starting to prepare its members for this eventuality by delivering the Certificate in Property Management.

In order to offer the qualification immediately, REINZ is partnering with Real-iQ and Skills to deliver the New Zealand Certificate in Residential Property Management (Level 4) in a new and innovative way.

Furthering its offering to the property management sector, REINZ is also announcing a new data product designed especially for residential property managers. REINZ Statistics for Property Managers will allow residential property managers to conduct appraisals, rent reviews and understand the market better. REINZ is also launching further bespoke training and education, information sheets and templates and accreditation for residential property managers in the industry.

Bindi Norwell, Chief Executive at REINZ says: “In order to prepare our members for potential regulation of the industry, we’re gearing up to deliver the Certificate in Property Management for our property management members. This means that by the time a formal qualification is required by those working in the industry, that we’ll already be one step ahead of the legislation.

“It is our belief that this qualification will help provide professional development opportunities to support property managers in the industry and also help to further raise professionalism and standards in the industry,” she continues.

“The qualification will further help REINZ property managers to stand out from other property managers around the country. It also provides a gateway to REINZ accreditation for property managers which is a mark of quality that landlords will start to demand,” concludes Norwell.

The New Zealand Certificate in Residential Property Management Level 4 is made up of 14 NZQA unit standards. Learning will take place over four modules:

• Module 1: Legal and Theoretical Knowledge

• Module 2: Establishing Residential Tenancy Management

• Module 3: Establishing a Residential Tenancy

• Module 4: Maintaining Residential Tenancies

The certificate will take 7-12 months to complete, and most participants will find that they are doing the majority of the qualification on the job.
