Annual Auckland home consents up 28 percent – Media release

30 August 2018

There were 12,845 new homes consented in Auckland in the 12 months ended July 2018, up 28 percent from the July 2017 year, Stats NZ said today.

“This was the second-highest number of new homes consented for a year in Auckland since records began nearly 30 years ago,” construction indicators manager Melissa McKenzie said.

“The highest on record was 12,937 new homes in the June 2004 year.”

Stand-alone houses accounted for nearly half (6,039) of all new homes consented in Auckland in the latest year. An all-time record (3,032) number of townhouses, flats, and units were consented in the year ended July 2018. More new apartments and retirement village units being consented also contributed to this year’s near-record number of new home consents in Auckland.
