Angela Berrill Awarded First Dietetic Communicators Award

7 September 2018

Dietitian And Media Spokesperson Angela Berrill Awarded Inaugural Dietetic Communicators Award

Dietitian Angela Berrill was presented with the inaugural Dietetic Communicators award by Network Communication at last week’s Dietitians NZ 75th Anniversary Jubilee Conference, held in Auckland.

The award, in its first year, was developed by Network’s specialist food communications arm The FoodGroup, to help highlight the important role Dietitians play in getting evidence-based messages into the public arena and to help to overcome the often-conflicting dietary advice shared in the media.

Emma Davidson, Head of Network’s FoodGroup, says that often the most sound dietary advice, including the concept of ‘moderation’, may not necessarily be ‘headline grabbing’, but is based on evidence and best practice.

“Dietitians have an important role to play in translating the evidence and research into messages that the regular consumer can understand. Angela Berrill does this so well, and we are very pleased to be able to present her with this year’s award.”

With over 15 years’ experience, Angela Berrill is passionate about simplifying complicated nutrition information and providing solutions for easy, everyday healthy eating. As a leading voice in nutrition, Angela regularly appears on TV and is often interviewed and quoted across a wide range of print and online media. She is also a freelance writer, who regularly contributes to the Healthy Food Guide.

"I hope that by continuing to work with the media, I can help to overcome nutrition misinformation and raise the profile of dietitians as being a trusted and qualified voice when it comes to nutrition,” says Angela.

"I'm hugely grateful to Network for this award, and for helping to highlight the role of communications within our profession."

In addition to her ongoing work with the media, Angela is the owner and director of the private nutrition practice and consultancy company ABC Nutrition, and an accomplished professional speaker and spokesperson.
