Car yard property set to be ‘traded in’ as land and buildings go up for sale

The land and building housing a substantial second-hand car dealership in suburban Auckland have been placed on the market for sale.

The property at 3010 Great North Road in the West Auckland suburb of New Lynn houses a branch of vehicle dealership Buy Right Cars on 2782 square metres of freehold land which is zoned for general business use under Auckland Council’s Unitary Plan.

Buy Right Cars with nine yards across the Greater Auckland area , is a division of Turners Automotive Group,. The company is on a renewed four-year lease at the New Lynn site, with the lease running through until May 2022, and with two further four-year rights of renewal - currently paying annual rental of $166,312 plus outgoings and GST per annum.

The high-profile almost rectangular shaped land and buildings at 3010 Great North Road are now being marketed for sale by tender through Bayleys Auckland, with tenders closing at 4pm on October 4 unless sold prior.

Bayleys Auckland salespeople Mike Adams, Simon Davies and Jean-Paul Smit said the property featured some 800 square metres of buildings – including a covered outdoor show space, administrative offices, showroom, spare parts storage warehousing, and a mechanical workshop.

“As a former service station, the property has a large forecourt canopy built of conventional steel framing on multiple steel columns,” Mr Adams said.

“This sector of Great North Road is home to several car dealerships and automotive support service business which all take advantage of the ‘hub’ nature of being clustered together for customer convenience. It is well known to the public that if you’re in the market to buy a second-hand car, then Great North Road is one of the destinations you head to in Auckland.

“The site is perfect for sustaining a second-hand car dealership operation. The considerable amount of car parking space enables up to 100 cars to be displayed at any one time, there are covered areas for premium vehicles to be showcased underneath, and the on-site mechanical workshop allows for minor maintenance and repairs to be undertaken on vehicles as a condition of purchase.”

Mr Davies said that Great North Road was one of West Auckland’s main arterial routes - sustaining a high traffic volume running in to and out from the New Lynn shopping precinct a kilometer away, while linking up with the North-Western motorway into the central city.

He said Auckland Council’s general business zoning for Great North Road allowed for business activities ranging from light industrial operations through to large format retail and trade suppliers – with the zone acting as a buffer between New Lynn town centre and the surrounding residential portions of the suburb.

Mr Smit said the buildings at 3010 Great North Road were constructed in the late 1970s/early 1980s, and were rated at 100 percent of New Building Standards.

“The property offers an investment opportunity in its current configuration, with the option of redeveloping the site in the longer-term as central New Lynn continues to expand concentrically outward,” Mr Smit said.
