Boat Monitoring System To Safeguard New Zealand Boats

Smart Technology From Auckland Business Safeguards Boats In Marinas

Auckland, New Zealand: BoatSecure and Beacon Marine release new technology system to safeguard boats in Auckland Marinas at Auckland on Water Boat Show. The BoatSecure smartphone app and web dashboard allows boat owners to check on the security of their boats from anywhere in the world. The system remotely monitors boats signals and sends alerts to an app on a boat owners smartphone via the BoatSecure cloud internet technology.

Beacon Marine has assisted BoatSecure during development and trials since 2017, and is now offering the system to boat owners in Auckland. The system will be on display at the Auckland on Water Boat Show 27-30 September 2018.

Cameron Harris, owner of Beacon Marine, says “BoatSecure has already proven its value to our customer boat owners. Picking up when shore power trips immediately has been an invaluable asset. Getting
phone notifications as soon as a problem is detected gives us time to confirm a problem and check on the
boat to correct the issue. Boat Secure is a valuable addition to Beacon Marine helping our customers to
get the most from their boats.”

John McDermott, CEO of BoatSecure adds, “We’re in business to help boat owners enjoy their boats as much as possible. BoatSecure ensures that small problems don’t ruin plans for great weekends on the seas around New Zealand. Our system has proven itself as reliable and valuable to boat owners and for Beacon Marine. If a problem such as power loss, low battery voltage or bilge pump isn’t noticed in time it can eventually result in damage to the boat, boat loss and insurance claims.”

The BoatSecure system uses a small device on the boat to monitor signals such as:
• Boat Battery Voltage
• Shore Power Supply Connection
• Bilge Pump Operation
• GPS Location and Anchor Drift
• Intruder or engine start alerts

The BoatSecure smartphone app provides display of data from boats and phone notifications if an alert is received.

Auckland has the largest marinas in the southern hemisphere. Westhaven Marina has over 2,000 boat berths, with other marinas in the region adding up to to over 5,000 berths.

BoatSecure is expanding operations to cover other marine sites in New Zealand and is in discussion with partners overseas to set up international distribution channels.

BoatSecure makes use of new wireless technology provided by Spark NZ. Known as LoRaWAN (Long range wide area networking) this system enables signals to be received from boats over 20km from shore based network gateway stations. Spark is deploying the technology nationwide.
