Heritage Christchurch Secures Another Award

Heritage Christchurch Secures Another Award in Time for Christmas - for Immediate Release

[December 7]

Heritage Christchurch has secured an early Christmas present with a win for the third consecutive year in the World Luxury Hotel Awards 2018.

The hotel was awarded the Luxury Heritage Hotel award for the Australasia region at the annual gala event of the World Luxury Hotel Awards recently. The prestigious awards are in their 13th year and are regarded as ‘the Oscars’ of the hospitality world, as voted by guests, travellers and industry players. Over 300,000 international travellers vote in the awards each year.

The win is on top of a recent win for the hotel at the Canterbury Heritage Awards 2018, where Heritage Christchurch carried off the Heritage Tourism category award. Previously, the property was recognised in 2010, 2012 and 2014 at these awards.

“Securing a trifecta of wins over the last three years at the World Luxury Hotel Awards is very rewarding, especially this year, so soon after the wonderful recognition in the Canterbury Heritage awards. It makes the time and care to maintain a landmark historic building all the more worthwhile,” says Gary Jarvis, chief operating officer of Heritage Hotel Management Ltd.

Heritage Christchurch’s Old Government Building is a category one protected building and was the only heritage building to survive the seismic events of 2011 largely intact.

The building was designed by renowned architect Joseph Clarkson Maddison in an Italian Renaissance Palazzo style. It opened in 1913 and is considered of ‘monumental’ importance to the city by architecture experts.

Heritage Christchurch is set in the 105-year-old former government building on Cathedral Square. The hotel offers elegant suites in one, two and three-bedroom configurations, plus, a health club and lap pool, for leisure visitors and business guests.
