Melanoma New Zealand appoints new chief executive

Melanoma New Zealand has announced the appointment of Andrea Newland as its new Chief Executive. Ms Newland will take up the role from 30th January 2019.

Ms Newland will continue to build on Melanoma New Zealand’s mission of preventing avoidable deaths and suffering from melanoma.

“New Zealand has the highest incidence rate of melanoma in the world – around six people a day are diagnosed with melanoma in New Zealand. The impact of melanoma on individuals, families, communities and the country as a whole, is far reaching,” says Ms Newland. “Working closely with the Board and wider team, my focus will be on driving a comprehensive fundraising programme to enable Melanoma New Zealand to invest further in its strategic objectives of championing prevention, promoting early detection and increasing access to high quality clinical care.”

Ms Newland joins Melanoma New Zealand after more than nine years at national children’s hospital charity the Starship Foundation, where she headed up the Marketing, Communications, Events and Corporate Partnerships functions. Other roles have included Editor of the National Business Review magazine, Associate Editor of Management magazine and Public Relations Manager for law firm Simpson Grierson. She is a trustee on the St Cuthbert’s College Educational Trust Board.

Ms Newland is a qualified and experienced journalist and also graduated in 1994 from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Laws.
