The Masport distinction

18 December 2018

Masport Ltd refutes news articles that associate it with the closure of Precision Foundries, formerly known as Masport Foundries Ltd.

It has been incorrectly reported by some media outlets that the closure of Precision Foundries in Auckland, formerly known as Masport Foundries Ltd, is associated with the consumer products company Masport Ltd, the makers of Masport lawnmowers.

For around 25 years, Precision Foundries and its former owner have operated as a ferrous foundry with no association to the company Masport Ltd. To suggest they are a former producer of Masport mowers is completely false.

Masport Ltd and Masport Foundries did have a common shareholder for many years, prior to the sale of the foundry to Precision Foundries, but that is where the association ends. Neither of these two foundry entities have any link to the totally unrelated and independent company Masport Ltd, a supplier of consumer power garden, BBQs and outdoor goods.

We wish to assure all customers and other stakeholders in Masport Ltd that this closure has absolutely no bearing on Masport Ltd’s operation and its financial position. We do, however, regret the closing of a neighbour with whom we share a common ancestry back to Mason & Porter Ltd, established in 1910.
