New Ratings Website aims to help Car Buyers

New Consumer Ratings Website aims to help Car Buyers Avoid Dodgy Dealers as Complaints Rise

A new dedicated platform for consumers to rate and review car dealerships aims to help people avoid dodgy dealers.

Customers are sent a BuyerScore online survey from dealers using the service to rate and review their experience.

With approximately 220,000 vehicles sold via traders each year, the goal is to help nearly a quarter of a million purchasers take the guesswork out of choosing who to buy from.

Mark Greenfield of BuyerScore says it gives better information and buying guidance to the public through the collation of thousands of personal reviews by recent kiwi car buyers.

“It’s important the New Zealand public understand that buying from a dealer tends to result in a quick, hassle-free and safe transaction – and now consumers have a tool to easily identify and therefore avoid the relatively small number of harmful traders out there” he says.

Last year, there were more than 400 complaints to the Commerce Commission about vehicle sales, a 17 percent increase on the year before – with the Commerce Commission promising more investigations as part of a new enforcement crackdown.

Mr Greenfield says Just over 230 dealerships are using the online tool currently, with around 15 new dealerships signing up each month.

The platform is also due to go live on TradeMe vehicle listings in the next few months.
