Electric motorhome popular on sharing platform Mighway.

THURSDAY 24TH JANUARY

Travellers wanting to experience exploring with an electric campervan can now do so using Mighway, an RV sharing platform connecting owners directly with guests.

Anna Solana, from Auckland, listed her Nissan EVV-200 on the sharing platform and has enjoyed strong bookings over summer. An RV enthusiast, Anna has owned and enjoyed a 6 berth fuel driven motorhome for many years. She purchased her ENV-200 in 2018 and has enjoyed the e-RV experience – taking her camper through the Coromandel and more recently to Raglan on road trips, utilising the increased charging infrastructure throughout the regions. She says, “We found it a great experience with plenty of charging opportunities. We really enjoyed the reduced noise, and felt much better about the impact we were having on the environment”.

Anna estimates she reduced her travel costs by more than 50% by using the e-RV. The electric camper has been popular on Mighway over the summer period with travellers keen to experience e-RV travel for themselves. Says Anna, “Guests have been really happy with the experience, even suggesting they would look at an electric car now. The only concern has been range, which is 80 – 100km, but we help our guests by providing recommended routes and an induction to drive the campervan in the most efficient way”. The vehicle is fully self-contained with kitchen and portaloo and sleeps 2 adults.

With motorhomes experiencing a surge in popularity, Mighway presents an opportunity to “try before you buy” with many different types of vehicles listed. Appetite for sharing through the platform is growing with bookings up more than 100% year on year. Along with Anna’s electric camper, a variety of vehicles are listed on the Mighway platform – from retro surf wagons through to ex-tour buses and luxury campervans.

Marketing Director Jason Nockels expects to see more electric options listed throughout the year, “We think electric vehicles and campervans will increase in popularity over the next 12 months and expect to see more listed on the Mighway platform. Electric vehicles, sharing platforms and solar power are exciting features of the future of tourism, presenting really great efficiencies for travellers.”
