Five new tools to improve small business operations

Business.govt.nz has launched new productivity content with five free tools and resources to help small businesses improve their operations strategy and free up more time to focus on their core operational tasks.

“Small businesses are incredibly busy. They tell us that they want to achieve more without having to work longer hours. That’s why productivity is important,” says Business.govt.nz Manager, Matt Kennedy-Good.

The new Operations Strategy content and tools help businesses to: • Improve their operational efficiency and innovation • Manage their capacity • Manage their inventory • Assess and ensure quality • Manage supply and distribution These resources were created by business.govt.nz in partnership with the global experts on the New Zealand Business Performance Panel. This Panel was established in March 2018 to improve New Zealand’s productivity by helping Kiwi small businesses adopt global management best practices. The panel has already helped created content on Management & Leadership and Strategic Finance.

“According to international experts like the OECD, one of the best ways to lift productivity is to help businesses adopt management best practices. This is why we set up the Panel,” says Mr Kennedy-Good.

While the new resources are shaped by global experts, they are carefully crafted to meet the needs of Kiwi small businesses through a customer centred design process.

The Operations Strategy content is the third set of resources to be released in the new Business Performance section on the business.govt.nz website. Since the section was launched in March 2018, more than 60,000 Kiwi businesses have used these resources, with an average satisfaction rating of 90 per cent.

“I look forward to seeing more Kiwi businesses using these free tools, as they continue to draw on expert advice from the global frontiers of innovation and business,” Mr Kennedy-Good says.

Small businesses can find the full suite of free Operations Strategy resources, tools, and advice online, on the business.govt.nz website.
