Hotel conference to focus on future growth

Overcoming new challenges facing the hotel sector, such as competing accommodation options, construction, investment, finance and staffing issues, will be a significant focus of this year’s New Zealand Hotel Industry Conference.

Registrations for the conference, to be held at Cordis, Auckland on 19-20 June, are now open at www.nzhotelconference.com.

Entering its 13th year, the conference has established itself as the most important event dedicated to New Zealand’s hotel sector. It is co-hosted by Tourism Industry Aotearoa and Horwath HTL Ltd. The conference attracts hotel managers, investors, developers, hotel chains, government agencies, hotel industry consultants, sponsors, and exhibitors.

Speakers this year will be discussing how to overcome the rapid change within the hotel sector due to growing competition, such as peer-to-peer accommodation, the cruise sector, and pod accommodation.

The programme is set to address the increasing rate of growth and change within New Zealand tourism, and how this is affecting the hotel sector. Key topics will include the dynamic and changing role of Hotel General Managers, staffing challenges, and the opportunities that can come from the changing nature of the industry.

Set to speak at the conference are Vice President of Operations Australia for Hilton Hotels Heidi Kunkel, former Prime Minister Sir John Key, Chief Executive of SKYCITY Entertainment Group Graeme Stephens, and Chief Marketing Officer of leading New Zealand chocolate manufacturer Whittaker’s, Phillip Poole.
