Progress being made for administration workers on AA Day

The Public Service Association (PSA), New Zealand’s largest union, is calling on all work to show appreciation for the tireless work of all of the tens of thousands of administrative and clerical co-workers around New Zealand as part of administration appreciation day.

"Administrative Professionals day, or Admin Day, is an opportunity marked every April around the world to recognise the absolutely essential but undervalued work that is performed by dedicated administration workers," say PSA national secretaries Kerry Davies and Glenn Barclay.

"Day in and day out administration workers make a huge, too often unsung contribution to keeping organisations running in order to underpin the vital public services provided across all sectors - at our public hospitals, government agencies, in local government and at community-based service providers".

Kerry Davies: "The biggest issue facing administration workers is the historical undervaluation of their work and the ongoing fight for equal pay.

"A sign of good news is that the pay equity claim lodged nationally exactly a year ago for DHB Administration workers has a solid wave of momentum building up behind it.

"A solid commitment has been shown to work through the relevant processes needed to take that claim forward as quickly as possible.

"Coupled with that the PSA’s Heart of the Hospital petition on equal pay for administration workers attracted 12,800 signatures, and was successfully delivered to Parliament last week as a strong show of solidarity and support behind our administration colleagues".
