SNAP wins ISP Provider of the Year

Christchurch internet service provider SNAP Internet has beaten the big corporates and walked away from this week’s TUANZ awards with the top prize for its category.

Chief Executive Jamie Cairns was proud to win Internet Service Provider of the year at a gala dinner in Auckland on Thursday night. 

“Delivering a winning service is not just down to the copper and fibre in the ground, it’s the innovative way our experienced team put together and provide a quality service,” Mr Cairns said.

The telecommunications company is one of New Zealand’s longest-standing ISPs, migrating its customers from dial-up through to high speed broadband connections, for more than 15 years throughout New Zealand.

SNAP’s core team is based in Christchurch and points of presence and diversity have ensured the ISP is able to deliver high grade internet across New Zealand.

National Sales Manager OIiver Richardson said the company’s philosophy was to keep it simple.

“We provide reliable service through the most appropriate technology.  People are sick of bundled arrangements, they can’t see what they’re getting and are shoehorned into a marketing-driven solution.  SNAP focuses on one call resolution for our customers, supported by a local team with advanced technical knowledge,” Mr Richardson says.

SNAP provides national networks. Through local partnerships, fibre networks such as Enable Networks have contributed to the company’s growth. Enable was nominated for a TUANZ fibre network award and hosted the SNAP team at their table.

“Our customers range from residential users, to large companies and other ISPs.  Being agile, we’ve been able to innovate which this award has recognised,” he says.

Many of Christchurch’s biggest companies are SNAP customers, including Hamilton Jet, the University of Canterbury and Allied Telesis.  SNAP is also proud to partner with the Aotearoa People’s Network Kaharoa, which provides free access to broadband internet services in public libraries so that all New Zealanders can benefit from accessing, experiencing and creating digital content.

At the awards event, TUANZ Chief Executive Ernie Newman commented on the exceptional quality of entries this year.

“The high calibre of winners this year clearly demonstrates that innovation and ingenuity is alive and well in the New Zealand telecommunications sector,” Mr Newman said.

The TUANZ award was voted by members based on innovation, quality of customer service, value for money and technical quality.  Among the 14 nominees were Orcon, Slingshot, Telecom, TelstraClear, Vodafone and Woosh.

“The phone’s been running hot today with congratulatory calls from our customers.  We love that we’re South Island-based and still nationally we’ve outdone the giants!“ Mr Cairns said.
