Building Activity Slow

Value of Building Work Put in Place: September 2011 quarter key facts

In the September 2011 quarter, the seasonally adjusted volume of:
• All building activity fell 2.3 percent, to the lowest level since the March 2001 quarter.
• Non-residential building activity fell 4.6 percent, after a smaller fall in the June 2011 quarter.
• Residential building activity was flat, and remains at the lowest level since the June 1993 quarter.

The trend for the volume of all building work fell 4.0 percent in the September 2011 quarter, and is now at its lowest level in 10 years.

Overall building work in Canterbury appears to follow a similar pattern to the rest of New Zealand, following the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes.
