Naylor Love Construction wins Selwyn Aquatic Centre Tender

Naylor Love Construction Limited wins Selwyn Aquatic Centre tender

Award-winning Naylor Love Construction Limited has won the tender to build the Selwyn Aquatic Centre, due to open in January 2013, with a price of $12,428,643.

All five tenders submitted were higher than had been anticipated because of construction material and labour price hikes following the Canterbury earthquakes. Together with the other costs (including project management fees and facility fitout), the total estimated cost is now $14.7million.

In announcing the winning tenderer, Mayor Kelvin Coe recognised Council has had to make some tough decisions on these projects, particularly because of the current financial climate.

“We’re pleased the pool can go ahead without any compromise in quality as a result of changed financial arrangements including extending the loan period, a reduced cost in loan servicing and a higher target for corporate sponsorship,” Mayor Coe says. “It also means we’re not anticipating any increase in the targeted pool rate for at least 10 years.”

A recent Lotteries grant of $680,000 was a great boost to the external fundraising target.

“We can now proceed with building a pool we can all be proud of,” Mayor Coe says.

Naylor Love Regional Manager Pete Lockhart was pleased to hear the news today.

“Naylor Love looks forward to working with the council to deliver an outstanding facility to the Selwyn community,” he says.

The company won the 2010 Master Builders commercial project of the year for the delivery of the Queenstown Aquatic Centre and built both the Dudley Park Aquatic Centre and Centennial Pool in Canterbury.

The facility will be located on Goulds Rd/Broadlands Drive, Rolleston and will feature an eight lane 25 metre pool with walk in ramp access, hydrotherapy pool with spa area, learn-to-swim pool and leisure pool, all in a naturally-lit, warm, safe environment where swimmers of all ages and ability can participate.
