Entries Open for $5000 ‘Always Learning’ Occupational Therapist Award

New Zealand Occupational Therapists are invited to apply for a new award offered by Pearson Clinical Assessment. The ‘Always Learning’ award comprises a $5000 grant aimed at encouraging Kiwi OT initiatives and to celebrate learning.

Pearson Clinical Assessment is a division of Pearson PLC - the world’s leading publisher and producer of materials that help educate millions of people worldwide. For the New Zealand market, Pearson offers standardised assessment tools for occupational therapists and provides free support and training to assist those using the tests.

Pearson General Manager Anne Madden says the new award provides the opportunity to profile and celebrate the great work of occupational therapists in New Zealand.

“Occupational therapists’ invaluable contribution to the community often goes under the radar, so we set up this award to recognise and reward the work these valuable professionals do every day. Most OTs are, by necessity, masters of making do with limited physical and financial resources. There seems to be a constant compromise between ‘ideal’ and ‘reality’ so the award is there to enhance their career and benefit the OT community at the same time,” says Madden.

The $5,000 grant will pave the way for an occupational therapist to conduct further study in a particular area of interest and to share the key learnings and experience from the study with other occupational therapists on completion.

To enter, occupational therapists must complete a simple online application form and outline their existing experience in the area of practice related to the professional development activity, explain how undertaking activity will impact on their clinical practice, improve the health and well-being of New Zealanders and the wider OT community and provide details of the location and nature of the training they propose.

The Award is open to all New Zealand-based occupational therapists that hold a current New Zealand practising certificate. Applications close on 2 March 2012.
