Background Matariki Hospitality
Industry Awards
The Awards are run and managed by ‘Northland Chefs’ who form the newest and youngest branch of the New Zealand Chefs Association. They are a nonprofit organisation, gifting profits back in to the industry by supporting local initiatives that help promote the growth of the future of their industry. An example of this is the scholarship given away to a young school student looking to further their career in Hospitality.
The awards were given the name ‘Matariki’ (eyes of god) as it symbolises the Maori New Year (and new beginnings) and fits in with the "Northland Chefs" ethos of promoting new Chefs, service people and new (Northland) products.
All members of "Northland Chefs" give up their time voluntarily to help recognise, benchmark and lift the profile of Hospitality in Northland to the wider National community.
