AUT GABA Business Series Kicks Off With Passion and Practicalities

The first in a planned series of business seminars jointly hosted by AUT (Auckland University of Technology) and GABA (the Gay Auckland Business Association) kicked off with a mixture of passion and practicalities last night at a presentation on Build Your Brand – Social Media Imperatives.

Over 60 people attended the session at AUT’s Four Seasons in Auckland to hear Belinda Nash AUT Digital and Social Media Manager deliver a vibrant and witty call for passion, vision, authenticity and purpose when entering the world of social media whether you be an individual, business or community group.

Mark Knoff-Thomas, General Manager Executive and Permanent Recruitment, Kelly New Zealand presented the results of the Kelly Annual Global Survey of attitudes to social media and offered some practical advice on improving a brand’s online presence.

Michael Richardson, GABA President says: `We are thrilled to be able to roll out this business series with AUT. We want to make GABA even more relevant to our members and part of that is being able to enhance what they are doing in their businesses as well as build strength in our communities so we can help further their careers, improve the reach of our community groups and develop our intellectual capital.’

Luc Shorter, Director Strategic Initiatives at AUT explains: `Change is inevitable and accelerating. We hope to engage with that challenge through this business series. Helping connect experts in industry with the people who need to acquire those skills is that linkage of practicality and theory, which is typical of AUT, the university for the changing world. It is about creating meaningful partnerships with our communities and the LGBT community is a very important one for us.’
