Large users bring challenges to Downstream: over 200 delegates registered
This year’s Downstream conference boasts a strong line-up of large energy users who will provide feedback on various aspects of the energy sector from a consumer’s point of view.
Following the Leaders’ Panel on day one, BusinessNZ’s John Carnegie will lead a discussion panel including Simon Linge who heads up New Zealand Steel. The company’s Glenbrook steel mill is one of the country’s largest consumers of electricity, gas and coal, and also boasts a 112MW co-generation plant.
Linge is joined on the panel by Graeme Everett from Norske Skog, Linda Mulvihill from Fonterra and John Woods, GM Commodity Risk at Contact Energy. Carnegie heads up BusinessNZ’s energy, environment and infrastructure division and is well known to the industry from his recent time at Genesis Energy.
The panel is set to discuss recent-year electricity market volatility and the developing hedge market. Electricity transmission pricing is expected to be a hot topic as well along with gas supply into Auckland.
Other energy consumers in the speaker line-up include Fletcher’s Sara Double on the hedge market functionality panel.
Downstream is now only five weeks away and organisers Energy news and Conferenz report strong registrations. Some 200 delegates are now registered. Organiser Matt Freeman says he expects the event to come up with over 270 delegates following last year’s event which saw 250 attend. “The booking pattern sees people register in the last few weeks,” he says.
Downstream is held March 6-7 at the Pullman Hotel in Auckland. For more information visit www.nzdownstream.co.nz
