Maori ICT Meet Up at NetHui 2013

Māori of the ICT world will gather in Wellington on Monday 8th July as part of NetHui 2013, New Zealand’s largest Internet focused conference, to discuss significant issues facing whānau, hāpū, rōpū, marae, whānau small businesses, learning groups and iwi.

“Māori are highly active in the world of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and NetHui 2013 gives us a perfect opportunity to bring together many different whānau to learn about the various Māori ICT entities, to share whakapapa & kōrero from our respective rohe and to hear about the mahi each of us are doing” said Māori ICT Meet Up Co-Convener Karaitiana Taiuru.

“We will explore how the internet could be used to revitalize te reo Māori and enhance Māori knowledge, as well as hear research that will give us great insight into how Māori utilise social media, which are things like Facebook, Twitter, You Tube and LinkedIn” said Mr Taiuru.

“One of the important kaupapa we will be discussing is the Māori Spectrum and the upcoming 700mhz auction,” said Mr Taiuru.

“At the same time, we openly welcome all whānau interested in ICT, whether it be creating online Māori resources, whānau looking to build community internet programs or Māori businesses who have an IT product or service they would like to share – the Māori Meet Up at NetHui 2013 is for you.”

The Maori Meet Up is free to attend.

About NetHui 2013
NetHui 2013 is a 3-day conference that brings together everyone involved with Internet issues in New Zealand. NetHui is based on the format of multi-stakeholder collaboration successfully introduced by the global Internet Governance Forum (IGF).

The theme for the 2013 conference is “The Power of an Open Internet”.

InternetNZ is organising NetHui 2013 as a platform for all those involved with the Internet in New Zealand to involve their communities. InternetNZ acts as a nucleus, with a huge variety of motivated people and organisations planning and running the individual discussions.
