Celebrating disability in the workplace

Thursday 17 October

Elevate Yourself with inspiring Awards celebrating disability in the workplace

Auckland not-for-profit organisation Elevator is celebrating careers for people with disabilities in the workplace by holding the first inaugural Elevator Awards.

The Elevator Awards not only highlight the issues surrounding disability in the workplace, but they also focus on celebrating the successes of those who have overcome challenges.

The awards will focus on the achievements of those with a disability in employment, and will recognise employers who support disabled people in employment.

This ceremony also celebrates 50 years of the Elevator Group.

CEO of the Elevator Group, Neil Porteous, says these awards are a celebration for the organisation and the people they have helped.

“The Elevator Group is celebrating 50 years this year and we wanted to do something different to celebrate this occasion. We decided to celebrate our candidates, our employers and our staff by creating the Elevator Awards. Every single one of our candidates is a success story and our Awards are an opportunity for us to share some of these stories,” says Porteous.

Three awards will be presented on the day. The first is the Employee Achievement Award, which recognises a person who has achieved success in their employment despite the challenges they have faced.

A second award, the Outstanding Employer Award, recognises an employer who has made a real effort to support a person with a disability into their workplace.

The final award is the Employment Consultant of the Year award and will be awarded to an Elevator Employment Consultant that has been nominated by their co-workers as a person that embodies everything that Elevator is about, and who goes the extra mile to make a difference.

Elevator is an Auckland-based recruitment consultancy that specialises in finding careers for people living with a disability. Elevator also works alongside Employers providing a free service to help them find the right candidate for their role who just happens to be from the disabled community.

The awards will be held on Monday 21 October.
