ZM Comes to Queenstown

29 April 2014

ZM Comes to Queenstown

Coinciding with ZM’s first year sponsoring the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival, The Radio Network (TRN) has announced plans for the popular ZM radio station to broadcast to Queenstown on a permanent frequency.

Now ZM, which targets 18-40 year olds, will be available on 88.8FM and it will continue to be accessible via TRN’s digital platform www.iHeartRadio.co.nz

ZM has recently been in the news nationally with the announcement that Fletch and Vaughan and Megan are the new Breakfast hosts of the station. On air from 28 April, Fletch, speaking on behalf of the trio raved about Queenstown.

“We are so excited to be broadcasting into the gem of the Southern Alps, the pearl of the South Island, the diamond of Otago, the precious stone of the place where it is. We have had a long and often sordid love affair with Queenstown. I used to be the captain of the Earnslaw (until the wharf incident), Vaughan was once crowned Miss Wakatipu and Megan was his runner up, she’s still bitter about that. So with the hope of scamming a free trip to Queenstown and two weeks of ski field passes, we are proud to announce ZM is now in Queenstown, so let the lower end fun-sized embezzlement and personal gains begin…"

In addition to ZM’s Most Eligible Boarder Party (26 June), TRN’s Chief Content Officer, Dean Buchanan says ZM has a host of parties running throughout the week.

“We’ve got ZM’s Sunday Session with General Lee and Mikael Wills, plus the ZM Ministry of Sound Radio Sessions gigs with Mikael Wills (23 June) and General Lee (24 June) and ZM’s Drive Show will be broadcasting from Queenstown for the week. Rest assured not only will ZM soon be broadcasting across the Queenstown basin, ZM will be out and about the whole week hooking festival goers up with the cool stuff.”

Buchanan says Queenstown has been on TRN’s radar for a while.

“We have been inundated with requests to have a ZM frequency for Queenstown and there’s no better way to launch it than with Fletch, Vaughan and Megan on board as the new Breakfast hosts and then following up with our involvement in the Winter Festival.”

Knowing locals are connected to the social pulse in Queenstown; ZM is currently running a promotion to find the Wakitipu Basin’s two hottest social media correspondents for the opening weekend of the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival (20-22 June) for more information go to www.zmonline.com/win/zm-correspondent-winter-festival

Queenstown’s permanent ZM frequency is 88.8, initially from the 23rd May it will begin add-free playing 3,000 songs peppered with 'Fletch, Vaughan and Megan Best Bits'. The full network programme commences 30 May.
