Students join Global Hotel Competition

Queenstown Resort College students join Global Hotel Competition

Three students from hospitality institute Queenstown Resort College (QRC) are currently competing in the global competition ‘Accor Takeoff!’ created by renowned Hotel Group Accor.

After two successful editions of the competition in Europe and Asia, Accor has launched a Global 3rd Edition for students of Hospitality Schools, Business Schools, and Universities around the world. This year’s topic is ‘Digital Innovation in the Hospitality Industry’ with the question posed to students “How will mobile transform the hospitality industry and customers experiences?”.

Focusing on the ‘experience’ dimension of the Accor mobile strategy, the students competing as ‘Qwacé’ have designed a mobile application entitled ‘Your Globe’ which serves as a personal assistant to travelers across the world. Using state-of-the-art technology, the application aims to offer highly personalised advice to hotel guests; such as shopping information based on the user’s preferences and history, or restaurant recommendations based on the user’s mood and location.

The QRC second year students Willow Lewis, Harry Greig and William Clarke are naturally excited by the competition, with the topic highly relevant to the industry.

“The development of digital innovation is an extremely interesting area, at a time in which hotels are trying to optimise guest experience whilst also maintaining highly personalised service” says Greig.

Voting is currently open to the public at www.accortakeoff.com, and the ‘Your Globe’ project can be found on page two. The leading 50 teams with the most votes on 6th May 2014 will be admitted to the second round.

Five teams will later be selected by the jury to visit Accor’s Head Ofce in Paris, and present their nal concepts.
