Niue Welcomes Start of Season with Second Service

Auckland, 21 May 2014 - Today, Niue welcomed the arrival of Air New Zealand’s second service to the island, which marks the start of the visitor season. The season’s inaugural flight will also carry home a group of New Zealand travel industry managers, the majority of who are experiencing Niue for the first time.

During their four day stay, the group have feasted on the island’s delicacies including exquisitely presented, uber fresh sushi and sashimi prepared by a world renowned Japanese chef, been on a dawn Uga hunt, swum in pristine waters and attempted to count the myriad of fish species that call Niue’s deep, warm waters home as well as traversing the island’s sea tracks to hidden chasms and reef pools.

Air New Zealand’s second service will run until 22 October and offers visitors to the island greater flexibility of stay with the ability to take 3 or 4 night short breaks, or experience more of the island with a 10 night holiday, complementing the current 7 night stay.

Outbound services leave Auckland on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, cross the dateline and arrive in Niue around 2pm the day prior. Return services are Tuesday and Friday afternoons, re-crossing the dateline to return visitors back to Auckland early evening on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Niue’s Director of Tourism, Vanessa Marsh says “it’s a very positive time for Niue with the additional service, increased accommodation capacity, and such great interest from trade partners such as the group we have just had on island.” Ms. Marsh says, this combined with the passion those who visit Niue have when they return will greatly assist in helping achieve the tourism target of 10,000 visitors annually by 2015.
