Chamber and Business Central Chief Executive resigns

Chamber and Business Central Chief Executive resigns

Raewyn Bleakley has resigned from her position as Chief Executive of the Wellington Employers’ Chamber of Commerce and Business Central.

She will leave at the end of September to take up the position of Regional Director Central at the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA).

Raewyn has been Chief Executive of the Chamber and Business Central for two years. She previously served 4½ years as Chief Executive of the Bus and Coach Association of New Zealand.

“Although I am sad to be leaving the Chamber and Business Central, this is an exciting career move for me in an area I have always been passionate about.

“My time at both the Chamber and at Bus and Coach Association cemented my appreciation of the critical role transport plays in the economic and social wellbeing of communities, and when this opportunity came along I couldn’t turn it down.

“It allows me to continue to contribute to the greater Wellington region, though in a different but very vital way.

“I will be working with public and private sector partners and stakeholders, including local authorities, towards long-term strategic goals for transport, and that’s very exciting.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of working at the Chamber and Business Central.

“I have worked with some great people who believe in and love this city and want to see it succeed, and

I am sure they will continue that work of championing it and the region.

“I look forward to watching the Chamber and Business Central go from strength to strength.”

Chamber President and Business Central Vice-President John Milford said he would be very sorry to see Raewyn Bleakley go.

“Raewyn has done an excellent job in re-establishing, re-invigorating, and progressing the organisation through a difficult time.

“She has built up strong relationships and has done a great job of promoting the city and the region.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed working with her. She has always acted in the best interests of member companies.

“I am happy to see her move on to somewhere where she will be able to continue to contribute to the advancement of the Wellington region. I know that our transport challenges will benefit from her considerable skills.

“We are now looking for an excellent person to continue Raewyn’s work, and intend going to the market for a replacement.”

Business Central council member Trevor Goodwin has been appointed Interim Executive Director and will oversee the organisation from when Raewyn Bleakley finishes until a replacement starts.
