It’s official: you cannot beat the InterContinental Wellington Presidential Suite as the best place for a truly indulgent night’s sleep.

The luxurious suite of rooms, located in the vibrant centre of Wellington city with sweeping views of the New Zealand capital’s harbour, was named New Zealand’s Leading Hotel Suite at the annual World Travel Awards in Hong Kong last night.

Taking the title over other nominees Pullman Hotel, Hilton Auckland, The Langham and Sky City Grand Hotel, all in Auckland, the only Wellington contender with its elegant lines, exceptional facilities and contemporary décor won the day with the most votes from guests and travel industry personnel.

“We’re delighted to receive this industry endorsement of our accommodation fitting in the high end luxury market, particularly appealing to those international travellers on the luxury lodge circuit who want to indulge in a city location,” said General Manager Scott Hamilton.

While often hosting heads of state or high profile entertainers, Hamilton said (parent company) IHG follows a philosophy of making the Presidential Suite attainable to a broader market, also being utilised by conference organisers for keynote speakers or people celebrating a special occasion.

The Presidential Suite was part of a comprehensive multi-million-dollar, two-year refurbishment completed in March this year, which transformed the iconic 232-room luxury hotel’s Club InterContinental Lounge, the Club InterContinental guest rooms, Chameleon Restaurant, The Lobby Lounge and the reception arrival experience, introduced a newly defined Deluxe Guest Room category and delivered the six most technologically-advanced conference spaces in Wellington.

InterContinental Wellington was also last night awarded Australasia’s Leading Conference Hotel and is now in the running for the title of World’s Leading Conference Hotel, which will be announced early December.
