Kiwi startup launches craft DIY for the rest of us
Makekit’s DIY craft kits let women and children get creative whatever their experience
Auckland, New Zealand, May 10th, 2017. Kiwi startup, Makekit, is aiming to help women and children find their creative side with DIY craft kits. Makekit craft boxes come with all the materials needed to complete beautiful craft projects, including tools and instructions.
Owner, Lisa Evans, came up with the idea after she searched for DIY craft kits she could give as gifts or make with her children.
“I looked far and wide, but there was nothing out there to help people make something tasteful and professional - even if it’s their first time making something. So, I started sourcing materials and making my own. I tested them on friends, who loved them, and so I started Makekit.”
I wanted people to be able to create something they’d be proud to show others and say ‘I made that’,” Evans says. Makekit sources materials both internationally and locally for its DIY craft kits for women and children.
“We try to use New Zealand materials by preference, especially for the soap-making and lip balm kits”, Evans says, “but there are also ceramics, beads, paints and things that we’ve sourced from all around the world so make sure people can make things that look really polished and professional.”
Customers can purchase a single kit or look forward to a surprise project every month with 3, 6 or 12-month subscription bundles. Evans says the kits are proving popular with both women and children.
“Most women love working with their hands. It’s relaxing, therapeutic and challenging at the same time. Some people like to get together with friends so they can craft, laugh and talk, while others crave quiet time and getting lost in a DIY project.”
Makekit has also recently launched the Makekit Party Pack, which includes DIY projects for 5-7 year and 8-10 year old girls and is perfect for girls’ birthday parties. Kits can be purchased online at www.makekit.co.nz.
