Symposium in Wellington attracts 150 researchers

Symposium in Wellington attracts 150 researchers to the Capital.

Research Symposium Focuses on Industry And Community
This week Wellington plays host to one hundred and fifty researchers. The researchers are from Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics (ITPs). They are joining together to present their research from a diverse range of disciplines and teaching areas.

For the first time in the event’s five-year history, all three Wellington based ITPs - Whitireia, WelTec and the Open Polytechnic are jointly hosting the research symposium. The theme this year is Innovating for Industry & Community and showcases the strong connection ITPs have with their communities and industry.

The Wellington research symposium will be held this Thursday at the Whitireia Porirua campus. The event which has grown each year now includes sixty-two oral and poster presentations.

As well as researchers from WelTec, Whitireia and the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand, Toi Ohomai and Le Cordon Bleu New Zealand are participating.

“The diversity of applied research undertaken at our institutions will be represented at the symposium,” says Dr Ruth Anderson Director Academic WelTec and Whitireia.

“Research areas including seismic assessment of structures; the language of trades; Māori values in Māori tourism businesses; mental wellbeing of paramedics; and juggling paid work and nursing studies feature as part of the programme. Almost every area of teaching and learning will be highlighted at the symposium,” says Dr Anderson.
