Refreshed app helps explore career opportunities

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has refreshed the Occupation Outlook app and web tool.

“The app has had an upgrade and now includes a section on ‘skills employers are looking for’ sourced from New Zealand and Australian online job ads. This will help young people explore career opportunities,” says MBIE’s Acting Manager of Labour Market Trends, Stuart King.

“For example, employers in the construction industry are looking for people with skills including commercial construction knowledge, power tool repair, and machinery operation. On the other hand, if you want to become a designer, you should gain experience in building relationships, visual merchandising, product promotion, and design software,” says Mr King.

The Occupation Outlook app is easy-to-use and provides an overview of job demand in different sectors, likely income levels, and training requirements for different career pathways. It can be downloaded to your smart phone from the app store, and is suitable for teachers, students or anyone interested in assisting young people in making good study and career choices.
