A man and his dog who became stuck in a cave close to Limestone Track, Marsden, Grey District, this afternoon have been extracted by CaveSAR.

The 49-year-old and dog are safe and well.

“It’s crucial to be prepared when going into bush, the West Coast has numerous caves and mineshafts,” says Sergeant Mark Kirkwood, OC Search & Rescue West Coast.

“It’s important to keep an eye on the weather, wear appropriate clothing and make sure to you are with a companion.

“Police would like to thank volunteers who showed up at short notice.

“Thankfully this incident had a happy ending.”
