Nokia Provide Wireless LAN For Home/Office

Nokia Introduces A New Adsl Terminal Providing Wireless Lan Connectivity For Homes And Small Offices

Nokia today introduces the Nokia MW111, a standards compliant, ADSL full rate and ADSL.Lite remote terminal that provides multi- megabit wireless connectivity within the home and SoHo (Small Office/Home Office) environments. The Nokia MW111 enables the delivery of Internet services by combining two of the most exciting emerging network technologies Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) and Wireless LAN (WLAN).

The Nokia MW111 has been designed with new consumer lifestyles in mind, delivering fast Internet service simultaneously and effortlessly to every standalone PC, laptop or any future Internet appliance within the home and office. Nokia is a front runner in this initiative and is leading the way towards broadband Internet access with full mobility for individual users.

The new terminal allows simultaneous fast Internet access and resource sharing for users in homes and small offices over wireless connections. A multi-PC environment in the home can take full advantage of multi-megabit ADSL service which may not be fully utilised by single PC usage. The wireless connectivity provided by the MW111 helps remove the burden of re-wiring homes and enables true mobility not achievable by networking schemes based on the usage of intrahome phone or power lines.

The Nokia MW111 is a member of the Nokia M DSL terminal family for small businesses and homes. It is housed in the new Nokia M DSL terminal design also on show at Telecom '99, Geneva, Switzerland during 10-17 October 1999.
