Exhibition On Contemporary Italian Architecture Opens In Wellington
The Embassy of Italy in collaboration with Victoria University of Wellington's School of Architecture
Nuova Architettura Italiana, an exhibition on contemporary Italian architecture, opens at Victoria University's Architecture School on Tuesday, 4 April.
The exhibition includes 40 panels showing plans and projects of the multi-faced Italian generation of forty-year old architects, and featuring such diverse buildings as an open-air theatre incorporated in the ancient Roman Walls to the Sports Centre of Tirano, from the golf course and club house in the Spa town of Salsomaggiore to residential buildings in Milano.
The exhibition is the initiative of His Excellency Dr Roberto Palmieri, the Italian Ambassador, who is a great devotee of thE arts.
"I was delighted to be able to bring this innovative exhibition and its curator, Professor Ado Franchini of the University of Milan, to New Zealand," Dr Palmieri said, adding "Whilst the performance of the Prada team in the America's Cup has highlighted Italy's high profile in New Zealand, now we have other dimensions to bring the image of Italy into sharper focus."
The exhibition comes to Wellington after showings in Melbourne and Auckland.
A cocktail function hosted by the Italian Embassy will formally open the exhibition on Tuesday 4 April at 6p.m. at the School of Architecture.
Admission to the exhibition is free. It is open to the public between 9a.m. and 5p.m. Monday to Friday, April 4 - 20.
The School of Architecture is located at 139 Vivian Street, Wellington.
