Playhouse Pub Oktoberfest

Prost! - It's Auckland's Turn to Party with The Playhouse Pub Oktoberfest

Aotea Square will come alive on Saturday October 7th with the city's First large-scale Oktoberfest celebration of beer, food and music.

"We're doing all we can to recreate the carnival atmosphere of the famous Munich Oktoberfest so it's going to be a great fun day," says Cadell Buss, Playhouse Pub Director and Oktoberfest organiser.

He says the Playhouse Oktoberfest will even have a traditional Oktoberfest Bier. This lager is brewed by the Paulaner Munchen Brewery which was established in 1634.

New Zealand's favourite beers will also be available throughout the day along with great food including German sausages and sauerkraut. There Will be German dancing and bands will perform modern and traditional music From midday to late including the Von Trapp Family Singers who will inject a Big dose of Oompapa into the day.

Planning for the Playhouse Oktoberfest began months ago and every detail has been taken care of right down to free buses from the suburbs to the central city.

The buses leave Eden Park at 4.30pm and 5.30pm, the Bruce Mason Centre In Takapuna at 1.15pm, the Burger King carpark in Mt Wellington at 1.15pm And the Ellerslie Race Course at 6.30pm.

Aotea Square will be transformed for the celebration with eight large marquees for cover. The marquees will hold 7000 people under cover comfortably, so this event will go ahead rain or shine.

Logistics for the day are impressive with a temporary, 25-metre long bar and three 10-metre square refrigerated containers being installed in the centre of Aotea Square for the day. It is estimated that over 16,00 litres of beer and 2,500 kilos of sausages will be consumed during the Playhouse Oktoberfest.

Entry to The Playhouse Oktoberfest is only $10 and includes a Commemorative stein. Tickets are available through Ticketek or on the door.
