Mayor Wants Car To Inject Fun

MAYOR WANTS CAR TO INJECT FUN

Christchurch's Mayor Garry Moore wants his art car to inject more fun into the city.

He will take delivery of the art car on November 19 and he wants to use it in a similar fashion to his distinctive, personal Austin Seven. "I want the art car to be identified with the city as an object of fun. When someone a bit serious comes to the city I think we should send the art car to the airport to pick him up," he said. "We can use the car to soften up people." Mr Moore said it would be used for city events, such as the Santa Parade and school visits. "I hope Councillors will use it to go to functions," he said. "It's really to be used to inject fun into the city." The 1965 Vanden Plas Princess R is now at the Centre for Contemporary Art for construction as an art car. Artists will be working on the car in the front window of the gallery from November 1 and an appeal has been made to residents to contribute miniature items to be fixed to it. It will be officially handed over on November 19 and driven away by Mr Moore.
