GUF? (Grace under Fire)

INL (Independent Newspapers Limited) have closed GRACE magazine and Linda Clarke who won the MPA's (Magazine Publishing Association) Editor of the Year, for the title, is naturally distraught. However overheard at last week's PS2 (Play Station 2) launch was Bill Ralston tipping Clarke as METRO's new EIC (Editor in Chief). Ok, so the covers were starting to get a bit tired, but there's no need to close the mag. Damn!! BTW, what happened to the proposed NZ edition of ELLE mag?

Kim VS Kate

Remember Bruce Weber’s editorial for W of Kate Moss and Foxy Brown fighting? In a life imitating art moment, Miss Moss earned a hair pulling from Lil Kim for apparently messing with the Rap Diva’s man at a party last week, as tipped by a London contact. Like Kate’s hair wasn’t already funky enough. However another source from NYC reckons that Kate wouldn't even touch Kim's man .... ever ... period. We can hear it already "In the red corner, wearing vintage Alexander McQueen for Givenchy" ... Watch this space.

Tulips on Turlington

Imagine my surprise when I was flicking through US Marie Claire (don’t worry I only read it for the articles) when I saw a picture of Turlie in a tulip print tank top that suspiciously looked like Zambesi. Christy was having a good ol’ laugh with fellow IT girl and model/photographer Kristina Cruse. Like the good nosey prada that I am, I immediately contacted Neville Findlay of Zambesi to enquire if the pretty one was wearing their label. Affirmative. Zambesites Neville and Tulia advised that she bought a Martini top in Tulip, a Frolic top in Moonlight and a Disclosure Shirt, on a recent Sydney visit promoting her Nuala range for Puma of yoga/pilates clothes. She has also been photographed in VOGUE, and W wearing Zambesi, in W she was credited as wearing Australian label Marcs – "Yikes" (Neville’s exact words). And we are still waiting to see if Madonna will be wearing Karen Walker's pearl print dress presented to her by that oh so, obvious harbinger of style... Janet McIntyre of 60 Minutes.

Closing the Gaps

You know fashion is not only about sweat shop slavery and people throwing shade around as if it were confetti at Brad and Jennifer’s wedding. Like a Sliver Screen Goddess, fashion has her good side too. Point in case is American clothing conglomerate The Gap’s decision to donate US$15 million to the Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP). It’s aim is to provide financial assistance to schools in urban areas such as The Bronx, New York. Helping to resource teachers, educational programmes, and positive role modeling. While we commend The Gap, we can’t help but wonder if they will be influencing the school policies in anyway, we eagerly await this new directive from the school board: "Students are reminded gang related bandanas are banned, however Hermes headscarves and diamond adorned turbans are encouraged. Please also note that only the school regulation Manolo Blahnik sandals are permitted." Save, those with vocal talents in the NZ Youth Choir dressed by Blanchet, our poor kiddies have to make go to schools sponsored by the likes of Mainfreight.

Ford Model

Speaking of The Gap, we love that French black beauty Noemi Lenoir stars in their Xmas Holiday campaign (and her 2nd Gap appearance). For some time many have dismissed her as a 1 Hit Wonder, but she continues to serve up flawless beauty, and with Turlie seem to be the only beauties who can rock an editorial in Oprah’s O and have photos in VOGUE in the same month! And she is the sole non-white model in the new Pirelli calender photographed by Mario Testino. Her rise is with the help of a refunked team at Ford in New York who are in the middle of a major fashion comeback, and are also responsible for TV3’s In Search of a Supermodel. Another classic agency making a comeback in a big way is Whilhelmina, founded by the 60’s poser of the same name, and have been in fashion oblivion since the early 80’s. With a new creative director (ex-Elite) they are now repping Amber, Esther, Nadja and Linda, who apparently is now set to go the way of the moment’s favourite legend's Stephanie and Nadja.

Adda Girl

New campaign girls include Naomi by Testino for Burberry, How cool is that, definitely the new WASP... Meisel does Moss for the new Gucci... Is Gwenyth the new Estee Lauder girl or has Liz been dropped? I love them both, can't decide. But wouldn't Naomi rock as a Lauder girl?... Uma Thurman now has Lancome, so get ready to see her on more mag covers than usual. Unfair given that their current face Sultry yet Sensible Spanish beauty Ines Sastre had to fight to get cover-age... Who will replace Cindy C as the new face of Revlon? We think they need an entire image overhaul, I mean Sarah O'Hare & Halle Berry ... Can we all say B.O.R.I.N.G?

Lurved it

* FASHION QUARTERLY's Summer cover. Sure it's a complete unashamed rip-off of Meisel's Valentino campaign, and the model looks like Caroline Riberio’s Aunite, but it just screams SUMMER!!.
* Seeing Tony Drayton's name in print again. Get ready to see more of Australian lensman Graham Shearer's name in the mags again. He practically ruled over all of the Aussie mags through out the 80's and early 90's only to try it in Europe seemingly unsuccessfully. Anyway he is back down under.
* Massey University's (Wellington) end of year show, opened with words from World's Francis Hooper. It was definitely Ladies Night with my favourite collections being Megan Cass, Aimee McFarlane, Christina Perriam, Angela Thompson (Karen Walker-esque menswear), Annie Ward, Kim Len and Emma Lindsay, all set to follow in the Parisian footsteps of alumni Collette Dinnigan
* Versace sponsorship of AUT Fashion Design school award. A 2nd year student winner gets to 2 weeks in Milano working with Donatella and her team. How glamorous! Don't worry I've already requested an enrolment pack.
* Charlie's Angels: The movie. Good music, sexy girls and funny, cheesy lines.
* Standing next to Andera Moore in the line at the Bank, how cool is that? Moore must have a thing for banks because her new Wellington shop is in the Old Bank Arcade
* The new MAC counter at Kirkaldies, but can the counter girls serve MAC attitude and funk?
* Australian VOGUE getting thicker and thicker (... in size)
* Models Jacqui Rickards (Damn! She's a Babe) from 62, and the determination of Christchurch's Adele Cutttance model Selina Halliday, who'll maybe one day follow in the footsteps of the 80's french model/sex symbol Estelle Lefebure-Halliday
* Gwenyth singing "Crusin", can this diva be any more talented? She is definitely my fave
* The December covers of Penelope "the BOMB" Cruz for American BAZAAR and Nicole Kidman for VOGUE, making it her second US VOGUE cover and the second time this year an Aussie has graced their cover. This year Anna Pacquin served up covers for NYLON and PREMIER, while Kylie Bax did the same at... BREATS, uh ... we mean BRASS

Hated it

* 2nd row seating at the Massey University end of year show, while TV3's camera was focused on me. Like, can I disappear? (Truth be known it was unassigned seating, still I was about to pull a "Do you know who I am"... Hey, it works at Denny's)
* Max's Sex and the City billboard campaign. Unoriginal and tacky
* METRO's December cover of the sex industry. Ditto.
* Charlie's Angels: The Glasson's version
* Australian BAZAAR still using the old style BAZAAR masthead, it looks sooo 90's.
* That Christy Turlington has been diagnosed as having early stage emphysema, even though she gave up smoking 5 years ago
* Meg Ryan & Russell Crow ... ditto the Revlon girls
