Open your mind and experience a live audio demonstration from a dynamic unit, styled and luscious in their motel unit, playing real live dancing people a selection of dirty house, disco and funk, with extra freedomŠ No other dance event in New Zealand has seen such great casting. Starting the evening are the lush and layered sounds of Wellington trio Ebb, whose varied amorphous moods and laid back performance style start the night right.

Ebb are a sublime mix of underground disco, funk and dub; like the Mad Professor meeting George Clinton and Donna Summer in a cheap motel for some acapella thrills. Ebb is voiced by the sultry Lisa Tomlins while Ruben and Iain provide phenomenal soundscapes, dub outs, effects and add super skanky samples. Ebb perform their magic while emerged in a plush hotel setting. They could be waiting for their man, warming up for a bit of reefer madness, but instead they engage in soul filled stories that capture the dancefloor.

Born in Japan, Nick Calingaert aka Common Factor spent his youth living in several countries such as Italy, England and Belgium before finally settling in Chicago in 1996. This will be the second time that this well travelled DJ and producer has played in New Zealand, after performing live at the Wellington International Jazz Festival in October of last year.

His most recent releases have been on Carl Craig¹s Planet E label and the Paper Recordings imprint and co-producers include Gemini (Spencer Kincy) and Chris Nazuka. His music is definitely hands in the air type stuff, yet with the realness of Chicago house and Detroit techno. With his solid blend of old and new school, American and European styles, Nick flows on the funk with lush melodic grooves, smart and sexy. Nick is currently based in the home of house music, Chicago, and has set up his own label ŒTactile¹, with plans to release Ebb¹s first single ŒBe The Man¹ after their joint New Zealand tour, the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
