Vodafone Warriors Fight to Stay in Top Eight

Auckland, New Zealand, April 17, 2001 – The Vodafone Warriors will head across the Tasman for the first time in several weeks to take on the Sharks in Sydney this Saturday.

With just one point separating the two sides (the Sharks are in sixth place, while the Vodafone Warriors have climbed to seventh) both teams will be working to maintain their ‘top eight’ spot on the NRL points table.

The Vodafone Warriors’ confidence are riding high after a 52-8 win against Penrith on Monday and a draw with the much-fancied Bulldogs. Coach Daniel Anderson is looking forward to his team posting the season’s first consecutive win at Toyota Park.

“We’ve come through the Penrith game relatively unscathed in terms of injuries. Mentally the guys are looking strong as well. We are more than happy with Monday’s win, but we need to keep this in perspective. There is another game each week, and each week we need to be in top form,” says Anderson.

“The game against the Sharks will be tough but we can’t expect to score more than 50 points against a side as consistent as them. But we’ll be competitive - this team is proving it has the depth of talent to go the distance and deliver good football throughout the full 80 minutes. The guys have got the desire to succeed and that’s half the battle won already.”

The Vodafone Warrior’s line up for Saturday’s game is as follows:

1. Justin Murphy
2. Henry Faafili
3. Clinton Toopi
4. Ivan Cleary
5. Francis Meli
6. Nathan Wood
7. Stacey Jones (C)
8. Jerry Seu Seu
9. Jason Death
10. Justin Morgan
11. Logan Swann
12. Awen Guttenbeil
13. Kevin Campion
14. Monty Betham
15. Richard Villasanti
16. Ali Lauitiiti
17. Richie Blackmore

The Vodafone Warriors will take on the Cronulla Sharks in Round 10 of the NRL competition at Toyota Park, Sydney, 7.30pm local time.
