Louise Wallace Fronts New Health Show

National Radio is introducing a new health programme fronted by television personality Louise Wallace. “Health Matters” on Sunday afternoons, targets both the general public and health professionals. The first programme plays this Sunday (22 July) at 2.30pm.

“Everyone has a health issue at some stage of their lives,” says Radio New Zealand’s Programme Development Manager, Elizabeth Alley.

“Health in its various manifestations of good and bad seems to be universally interesting at both personal and professional levels,” she says.“Health Matters aims to be inclusive of all those interests. Presenter Louise Wallace and resident medical consultant Dr Richard Fisher will be joined by a panel of health professionals from a variety of medical disciplines.

“Health matters will focus on developments in new techniques and treatments and scientific research taking place throughout New Zealand. Because radio is an immediate medium this will enable medical information to be made public pretty quickly,” says Alley.

For each item in the programme, a fact-sheet will be available to listeners who request further information. Many programmes contain items which explain the symptoms of an illness or disease, and how medication or other treatment works to eradicate or control the disorder.

Alley says it is important to note Health Matters will not be offering a diagnostic service, rather it will provide information about how medical science currently deals with a given condition, or it will examine the implications of new research.

“Generally, the series will be based upon orthodox, scientific medicine, although there will be an occasional item covering concerns and treatments from traditional or cultural health professionals.”
