Big blokes have their own TAB golf book

The 130th British Open tees off this Friday and the TAB is offering a colourful mix of betting options – including a book on golfers called David, one for well-known “chokers” and one for the bigger blokes on the course.

Tiger Woods is favourite to win the competition. However, TAB golf bookie Mark Stafford said he was looking for something different to offer the punters than the normal buffet of golfing options: “I wanted something new for our customers to chew on. Punters are normally good-humoured so we’re hoping they enjoy the options.”

In the Top of the Davids book, David Duval is at $1.65, David Toms $3.00, David Smail and Frost $10 and David Howell $14.00.

The Top Chokers book includes Phil Mickelson and legendary British Open choker Jean van de Velde.

The big blokes book features Darren Clarke (102kg) $2.90, Duffy Waldorf (101kg) $25, Colin Montgomerie (95kg) $3.10 and a trimmed-down John Daly (90kg!?) $7.50.

Stafford says it’s no great surprise that three of the seven are from the UK: “Yep, they really like their pudding over there so they’re in fine shape, but don’t discount 1995 champion ‘Long’ John Daly from the US. He must have gone from regular to Diet Coke, but he can pack a few away when the going gets tough.”

Other exotic books include Top African group, Top Swede, Top Young Guns and Top Australasian. Kiwi No 1 Michael Campbell is favourite in the Australasian book.
